STRATEGIC CONSULTANT — CREATIVE PHILOSOPHER — DESIGNER

Strategy is
the art of seeing
what others
overlook.

Hi, I'm Kaya. An independent consultant with over a decade of experience working at the intersection of brand strategy, creative production, and growth strategy and translating cultural observation into strategic clarity.

The best strategies are not obvious. They emerge from careful observation of what is already there but not yet seen. A true love language.

CURRENTLY

Working with select clients as a strategic consultant and creative philosopher. Writing weekly on Brand Science, my Substack exploring the philosophical foundations of strategy, culture, and meaning-making.

Great brands are built on deep connections.

I love when I'm given the oppurtunitie to help organizations uncover the deeper narratives that define their place in the world. My approach is rooted in creative philosophy: treating strategy as a practice of observation, immersion, interpretation, and articulation. Understanding not just what to say, but why it matters.

PRACTICE AREAS

Brand Strategy

Positioning, narrative architecture, and language systems that create distinction.

Cultural Forecasting

Understanding the forces shaping perception and identifying opportunities.

Activation & Production

Strategic frameworks and experiences that guide solidify postion, voice, and culture.

Creative Services

Artistic direction and design services that build visual identity, develop assets, and bring ideas to life.

ON STRATEGY

Most organizations don't have a strategy problem. They have a clarity problem.

THE OBSERVATION

Revealing what's already true but poorly articulated and bringing it to the surface.

THE PRACTICE

The ability to see patterns others miss, articulate ideas others feel but can't express, and translate cultural complexity into actionable direction.

THE OUTCOME

Clarity. Distinction. Cultural resonance that endures because it's built on something real for real people.

FINDING THE RIGHT ANGLE

A Creative Mind

Focused On The Prize

Where creative philosophy meets strategic practice: the ability to see patterns others miss, articulate ideas others feel but can't express, and translate cultural complexity into actionable direction.

When Markets Shift

Legacy organizations face irrelevance when categories evolve faster than their positioning. Cultural and brand strategy reframes what you do in terms of what matters now.

When Growth Stalls

Competing on features is a race to the bottom. Strategic differentiation creates new dimensions of value that command premium positioning and cultural relevance.

When Trust is Everything

Complex offerings require belief. Strategic consulting builds the narrative infrastructure that transforms skepticism into confidence.

When You're Creating a Category

New categories need new language and cultural framing. Without clear positioning, breakthrough ideas get misunderstood, undervalued, or ignored entirely.

Repositioning for Cultural Relevance

CHALLENGE

The Washington Wizards needed a season identity that would deepen fan connection and reflect the team's evolving culture. With a young roster and a new generation of fans emerging, the opportunity was to create a campaign that celebrated not just basketball, but the people, personality, and spirit of Washington, D.C.

APPROACH

Led the creative strategy, narrative development, and visual design of the 2019–2020 season identity. Through cultural research, I explored what makes D.C. unique, its neighborhoods and fashion to its history and local pride, and translated those insights into a storytelling-driven creative platform. Using collage as both a visual language and conceptual framework, I developed the campaign's typography, color palette, graphic treatments, and overall identity system, creating a tactile aesthetic that could seamlessly extend across social, digital, environmental, and experiential channels.

RESULTS

Delivered a season-long creative platform that unified marketing efforts across touchpoints while strengthening the team's connection to the city and its culture. The identity provided a flexible framework for storytelling throughout the season, helping position the Wizards as an extension of the community and cultural fabric of Washington, D.C.

Defining A Brand for Community Impact

CHALLENGE

Charm City Cultural Cultivation wanted to evolve into a recognized cultural organization in Baltimore's cultural ecosystem that could attract artists, funders, partners, and audiences, but its brand identity, messaging, and public presence were underdeveloped.

APPROACH

Led the organization's rebrand, developing a strategic foundation that aligned its mission, programming, and public identity. Through stakeholder engagement, audience analysis, and cultural research, I identified opportunities to strengthen positioning and clarify the organization's value proposition. I translated these insights into a cohesive brand system spanning visual identity, messaging, marketing strategy, program communications, and audience engagement, ensuring consistency across exhibitions, artist initiatives, partnerships, and public-facing experiences.

RESULTS

Established a stronger and more recognizable cultural brand that elevated the organization's credibility and visibility within Baltimore's arts community. The rebrand provided a scalable foundation for growth, supporting expanded programming, deeper community engagement, stronger partnerships, and increased alignment between the organization's mission and perception.

Building A Destination Ground Up

CHALLENGE

Downtown Baltimore lacked a contemporary cultural space where food, art, and community could exist together in a meaningful and accessible way. The opportunity was to develop Tribe Social Cafe to function both as a neighborhood cafe and a curated gallery platform for emerging artists.

APPROACH

Led the development of the brand identity and cultural strategy for a hybrid cafe and gallery. Established the positioning of the space as a daily cultural experience, integrating hospitality with contemporary art. In addition, built and directed the gallery program by identifying, curating, and supporting a roster of emerging artists from Baltimore and beyond, shaping exhibitions and ongoing programming. Translated this vision into a cohesive system across environment, marketing, and exhibition design.

RESULTS

Established Tribe Social Cafe as a new cultural destination in downtown Baltimore, blending hospitality and contemporary art into a unified experience. The gallery program introduced rotating exhibitions. The brand is a scalable platform as a neighborhood gathering place and an accessible entry point into contemporary art.
