Capital City Go-Go 'Ode to Go-Go'

Season Campaign

Creative Direction, Branding, Campaign Development for Washington D.C.’s G League Team

The Capital City Go-Go, G League affiliate of the Washington Wizards, launched their first season in the brand-new Sports and Entertainment Arena in Washington D.C.’s historic 8th Ward. My goal was to create a campaign that felt deeply rooted in local culture—one that celebrated the city’s iconic Go-Go music heritage while building excitement for the team’s new chapter.

To ensure authenticity, we collaborated with the Maryland Institute College of Art, which had acquired and preserved original assets from the legendary Globe Poster Printing Corporation. Known for its vibrant, hand-printed posters announcing acts like James Brown, Globe’s archive provided the perfect visual foundation. We incorporated this visual language into a modern sports branding system—bridging the city’s musical legacy with its sports culture.

The resulting campaign connected instantly with the community, blending history, sport, and music into a dynamic identity that honored the past while rallying fans for the future.
